Fall From Grace

By Josh Q. Public

This is how they did it. This is how the Bombers' Empire crumbled. The Yankees of 2000 were perfectly balanced. Both young and old players. The highest payroll, yet most underpaid team in baseball. Jeter, Bernie, Posada, Rivera and Pettite all were under their pre-arbitration contracts. The low pay youngsters allowed them to overpay for Wettland,Tino, Justice, Cone, and Clemens. Knoblach was wildly overpaid, but was a perfect addition to the young/old formula. Nobody could touch them.

Then, Steinbrenner comes back from exile. He fires the Stick, Gene Michaels. Cashman comes in. They completely abandon that winning model. The Yanks have always been in the perfect position to kill everyone with it. They have the ability to outbid everyone and anyone. They once had the best farm system, bar none. This isn't the NBA or NFL where the draft is your sole channel of talent, and a string of success leads to a bench full of 30th draft picks. In Major League baseball, the Latin ballplayer goes to the highest bidder as soon as the pubic hair arrives. How does Pujols come up and the Yanks don't outbid everyone? His whole town gets a new caddy and a Jeter jersey. Since Bernie came up there has been no quality outfielder for 15 years? Does Jay Buhner count as 2 in 20 years?

At this point, there is only one solution. Trading the best SS in baseball, A Rod, for young talent. Pitching. They will continue to hover around the top without winning a damn thing at this pace. Let's just hope no one is reading.

My apologies to Josh Q. Public, the following statement has nothing to do what you have written above.

To the people who run this site:

It's nice to see you have fixed the sytem you implemented for signing in- hopefully it's not to late to keep what readers you have left. I have checked back often to see how long it would take, and I also contacted one of this sites owners (no reply) and the people at "typekey". I find it sad that a Yankee fan such as myself cares more for this site than it's owners do.

Is anyone else is still having a problem signing in? If so, email me at casale98@netscape.com. I don't know that I can help, but I will do what I can.

Hey Yankee Sonshine. Find someplace else to air your problems. Nice name. Yankees suck you dummy.

Josh,

Respect the veterans. Yankee Sonshine has earned his place here and even though his posts may be out of place, at least he has a point - that there may be a few problems with the posting system.

Since Yankee Sonshine has the only three posts in the last half month. Do you really think it's a wise choice to show this kind of a reaction to somebody who finally does post?

Cheers,
Jack Jablin

Nice to see you again Sonshine its good to see someone post something about the system, I also prefer to go back to the old system, even though we had a cr@pload of spammers on BOTB, at least we could POST. >.

Josh Q. Public,

"Find someplace else to air your problems."

The problem isn't mine, it's this sites. I have spoken to representatives of TypeKey, and they informed me that the sign-in problems were caused by this site, not thier service.

And as far as your name calling goes, get a clue. Why not let me actually say something baseball related before you show your ugly/ignorant side. You have now shown yourself to be narrow minded and unable to see the point of a Yankee fan, just because they are a Yankee fan. Nice job on credibility.

I admit, I'm new to this site and dont get quite get the nuances. So help me out, I'm a little confused. Isn't this YankeesSuck.com? Not YankeesKumbaya.com? Lets get this straight. I Hate the Yankees. Not some vague embodyment, like their the establishment or something. I hat the Yankees themselves. Every last one of them. No middle ground. No metaphors. Jeter, Mariano, Bernie, Jorge, all of them. Hope they get hit by a bus. Understand this: I was innoculated into Red Sox Nation in 1978. 13 years old. Went to every week-end homestand with my brothers. Only to lose that playoff game. Scarred for life. Yankee hater for life. Until 2004, I could not say boo. What could say I say? 1918. Red Sox Nation were second rate citizens, and it sucked. I still hated them though. Then 2004 happened. Who's a punk now? There's been no turning back. Its good to be the King. I refuse to let up on the Bombers one iota. Keep stepping on their necks, I say. No as far " to see the point of a Yankee fan." Are you out of your cotton picing mind?

J - There is a very large gap between "hating the Yankees" and being rude to a person of this site, who has been here longer than the Curse has been broken.

U - And as for your "don't step off the throat" remark; there are plenty of Yankee fans to hate. There are plenty of annoying fans from EVERY team and EVERY following that we all dislike; but there are also a group of people who don't reflect their incompetence. Believe me, there are about as many complete and utter morons in Red Sox Nation as there are competent ones.

N - You have the ability to make your opinion heard on this website. However, regardless of your dislike for the New York Yankees, you must recognize that people like Yankee Sonshine are NOT a part of the team that you hate. Sonshine is NOT an arrogant, obnoxious Yankee fan; like the ones you've clearly grown to hate. You would know this if you had more than one month's experience under your belt.

E - You randomly lashed out and attacked him because he was trying to help this website out; that is why there is right now a backlash against what you are saying. What you said has NOTHING to do with you hating the Yankees, it was simply being rude. Many writers on this site are capable of hating the Yankees and the fans equally; but at least they have the civil ability to wait for a reason to lash out.

1 - I'm not saying you need to light up a campfire and eat BLT's with Derek Jeter. I am saying that until you actually have some experience in this community, you have no cause, right - or even reason - to attack somebody who posts something as simple as "Hey, anyone else experiencing the same problems I am?" Every time that you do, you lose credibility. I am not attacking your writing, your person or your intentions, I am simply stating the facts.

6 - I too used to be a blind hater, but then the curtain closed on the Curse. At that time, there was no reason to hate the Yankees for me. Sure, I dislike them, I hate that they got Damon, but like Denis Leary said: I have my 2004 trophy, I'm done.

R - Since writing on this site, I have come to know and interact with plenty of Yankee fans, and I know for a fact that there are just as many obnoxious Yankee lovers on this site as there are Red Sock lovers. That is why I am able to distinguish between personalities, not by teams.

E - As well, for a 41-year-old (assuming you were born in 1965, 1978 - 13) you come off as a very lonely, vengeful person. I'm not calling you that, I'm simply letting you know that your attitude reflects that. If you feel that description in no way reflects who you are, perhaps you should think about how you come off before you hit the "post" button.

T - I've been away for over a month now, giving the writers of this site their own voice; I pray that the voice you have expressed thus-far is not the future for this website. One that is filled with hate, with blind hit-and-run ego assaults.

U - I also hope that I am wrong about you. I hope that you aren't as rude and blind as you have portrayed yourself.

R - I challenge you to prove me wrong and work just as hard on this site as you have at being a Red Sock fan, I challenge you to show the entire community what you can do.

N - When you do that, then - and only then - will you truly be able to make a statement.

S - Cheers,
Jack Jablin

Unfortunately, you are not wrong about me. I am all of that.

Too bad.

June 16th, no need to fear. Jack Jablin will be here.

Thank god for Yankee fans; if for nothing else than to combat the ignorance of other baseball fans.

Welcome back, Sandman.

I hope you don't mind if I chime in with my 2 cents' worth. I stumbled onto this site a few months back while playing with my new computer. With the help of my grandson, I decided to register. I'm not very computer savvy, so hopefully, this will work...

First of all, I'm a LONG time Boston resident (74 years until I moved to the west coast), and a lifelong Sox fan. My dad took me to Games 3,4 and 5 of the 1946 World Series, I got my first look at a young ballplayer named Ted 'Be Patient, Wait for Your Pitch' Williams. A legend. A sportsman. And an un-admitted Yankee hater! Actually 'Teddy Ballgame' hated everybody - the fans, his teammates, the media, his first wife, you name it. But the guy had talent. And in a strange way, the guy had class.

Speaking of class, I'd like to address comments made by Josh Q Public. Hey Josh -- have a little class, punk. You make the rest of us Red Sox fans look bad. I'm sorry you were 'scarred for life' after that game in '78. Get over it, I saw the Sox go up 3-2 in the '46 Series, only to lose in 7. I didn't go home and cry like a little school boy, though. Perhaps you didn't notice but between 1978 and 2004 there were some great moments in Boston sports. Had you heard of the Celtics, Bruins and The Patriots back then, or were you too busy being scarred for life?

The only thing I agree with you on is that it's good to be King. But let me remind you that the Sox got swept by Chicago last year. (I'm surprised you weren't scarred again for life.) So go ahead - spew all the venom you want at the Yankees, then get some help for your anger. Meanwhile, the Sox will dominate the 2nd half of baseball and dominate the post season. Somehow, I suspect you will still find a way to be unhappy.
