Keeping It Real
By lefty
Now that the Sox are riding high, it is easy for us to fall prey to the trap of rejoicing over things of no significant value. A good example of this would be the Yankee’s 22-0 thrashing at the hands of Cleveland earlier this week. Although it was fun to watch and their worst loss ever, it is best to keep things in perspective.
For example, where would something like this list compared to other notable moments in Yankee history:
1. Lou Gehrig’s 2,130 consecutive games played streak.
2. Joe DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak – 1941.
3. Allie Reynolds’ second no-hitter of 1951 – Sept. 28.
4. Roger Maris’ 61st home run – 10/1/61.5. Babe Ruth’s "called shot" – 1932 W.S..
6. Don Larsen’s perfect game in 1956 W.S.
Where does an outcome of one game out of 162 fit into this list? Not high. And this is without pointing out the fact the Yankees bounced back and still took the series with the Indians.
We should all keep it real. There is still a long way to go.
