Do I Stay Or Do I Go Now?
By Jack Jablin
In October, it was pretty clear to me that Theo Epstein would return to the Red Sox. Even after he left Boston, the news that he was speaking to the Dodgers sounded laughable and flat-out impossible. Months have passed and finally, after painful, painful rumors and substitutions, Theo Epstein has returned to HIS Boston Red Sox.
Perhaps it was his departure that made me dislike Red Sox ownership so much as I do. Perhaps it was that the regime in Boston was coming to an end. Today I get to smile and realize that Theo Epstein knew what he was doing all along. He wasn't trying to bait fans or make a few extra bucks.
Like I said since day one: Theo Epstein was lost and has finally found himself. Theo is to Boston what an aluminum bat is to NCAA Baseball, he's what you always see but never appreciate. Epstein may have had a hand in the recent moves that Boston has made (acquiring Mark Loretta for one) but, I think that Boston now has some major influence, now that their big name GM is back in the saddle, officially.
I still do not trust or admire the Red Sox ownership. They remind me too much of the same type of squad that I despise in New York - the Yankees. However, knowing that someone level-headed and fair is in charge, it will allow me to plan out my MLB Extra Innings (courtesy of DTV) watching, months in advance.
Welcome back Theo, it's been too long my brother.
Cheers,
Jack Jablin
